On the Job, 24 Hours a Day, 27 Days a Month

The New York Times’ Andy Newman shares the story of Marjorie Salmon, a live-in home caregiver. It’s a real look at the lives of caregivers and the crucial role they play. This story shows just how difficult this job can be and the toll it can take on a life. No amount of money is enough to compensate a truly caring and dedicated caregiver. But it shows why the low wages paid by Medicare, Medicaid, and home health agencies aren’t sustainable. The people on the front lines caring for America’s elderly population deserve to keep most of the money paid for care. It’s why we operate with a focus on supporting the entrepreneurship of freelance caregivers who have a direct relationship with the families they care for.
